Workin' To Pay The Man - 2025 Remix
QRIGINALLY FROM THE CD "ALPHA"
“Workin’ To Pay the Man” is a melodic tune that describes the struggles of a working person - in any profession -to make ends meet and pay that one big bill in April to the “Tax Man”.
The song was written by Jeff, and he handles the lead vocals. The idea for “Workin’ to Pay The Man” was in Jeff’s head for many years about working hard to achieve the things you like in life. Obviously, being a musician/studio owner, Music is his love!
When it came to teaching the band the song, he was totally out of character, explaining it. Normally, he would play the parts on his guitar. Not this time – he hummed all the parts.
The Beatles inspired Jeff to become a musician and definitely had a big influence on his songwriting and this tune. The music/lyrics flowed out of his head quickly.
The artwork created for this tune by "Boris" was inspired by an ancient Greek mythological king named Sisyphus, known for his intelligence and deceitful nature. He angered the gods on multiple occasions, including revealing Zeus's secrets and cheating death. As punishment for these transgressions, Sisyphus was condemned to spend eternity in the underworld. His task was to push a massive boulder up a steep hill, but each time he got close to the top, the boulder would slip from his grasp and roll back down, forcing him to start again.
Workin' To Pay the Man ' starts with an angelic-sounding 12-string acoustic guitar intro and leads into a rhythmic pulse of bass and drums. In the chorus are the M&R Rush layered vocal harmonies reminiscent of Foreigner, Queen, and Journey. The Beatles’ tune Taxman influenced the lyrics.
