The Story Behind The Song: Episode #1 - Rock & Roll Chicago

Rock & Roll Chicago is the song that got it all started for the band. In 1980 it landed on an LP vinyl record “Chicago Rocks Volume 1 “ that was put out by the largest rock station in Chicago -WLUP FM 97.9.
FROM CARL - Rock & Roll Chicago was written back in 1974 on my brother's Les Paul guitar at our house on Union Avenue in Chicago. It is a song about the people of Chicago who I grew up with and loved. If you grew up in Chicagoland you knew of the references in the song to Mayor Richard J Daley, who knew how to celebrate St. Paddy's Day, rush hour on the Dan Ryan Expressway, and hanging out at the forest preserves. I am still very proud of Rock & Roll Chicago which shows off the talents and powerful vocal harmony of M&R Rush! The song was #45 on the LOOP Radio Station's TOP 98 of 1980!
LYRICS
I come from an Industrial Midwest Town
Where a lot of good people always get down all night with you
If it’s all right with you
While I was schooled in its system and its churches I was preached
But I learned a whole lot more at Oak Street Beach and Downtown
We done some messing around
And the people over here Rock daily in the Street
In honor of the Mayor who put them on their feet for 20 years
They drank green beer
Those people worked their butts off and say they do their best
Seldom take the credit or the money or the rest – that they deserve.
Let’s party in a forest preserve.
Rock n Roll Chicago
Rock n Roll Chicago - My home town.
You’re the Number One City and Woman are so pretty
Everybody got to come on down.

You don’t believe me baby
Come on down to Chicago

When they all start jamming – they will put you into shock -You’re here in Chicago
Well there is a lot of good places like to rock roll
Always something happening – somewhere to go in Chicago

And the people over here rock daily in the street
Right where the Dan Ryan and the Eisenhower meet at 4 PM - Yeah - What a hell of a jam.
