The Story Behind The Song: Episode 3 - You're The Only Woman from the EP - "Reach For The Stars"

You're The Only Woman is about the age-old story of love lost. Man gets dumped by his woman for another guy, Man swears he's done with women until the right one comes along and makes him forget about the one who did him dirty. Roger does a great job singing it and Marty adds his signature beginning to the song. Back in the 1970s, synthesizers and electronic string machines propelled the new sounds of rock music. Everyone was using them except Queen. So, Carl added an ARP AXXE analog synthesizer and an ARP String Ensemble to his collection of keyboards to keep up with the latest sounds. Both instruments are featured on the M&R Rush song, You're The Only Woman. The AXXE sequenced 2 notes, 1 step apart at a pace that was humanly impossible to duplicate and the String Ensemble added the violin sounds to the mix. One side note, our friend, Roman Sawczak (One of our first Roadies) used to call You're The Only Woman, YUM YUMMY WOMAN. Try it during the chorus!
LYRICS
I was burned beyond recognition, by a dear dear lover of mine
I was burned so bad by that old flame, that I went totally blind
I lost the use of my vision, little chance for full recovery
But you realized what I needed, was a woman who could get through to me
CHORUS
You’re the only woman
You’re the only woman
Who could get through to me
You’re the only woman
You’re the only woman
The only woman for me
My friends all thought I was done for, they threw in the towel for they knew
That a man who lost all his vision, had lost all confidence too
You gave me back what I needed, I found myself back in the race
I proved to myself once again who I am, because of you I’m back in my place
