We would play at a Rock Club / Pool Hall in Dubuque Iowa called Junnies. We stayed at the Hotel Julien, a hotel that Al Capone stayed at when he and his gang were hiding out in Iowa. So, one Saturday afternoon Roger and I (Carl) decided to explore the Hotel Julien. But instead of finding Al Capone's hidden room, we found a beautiful-sounding grand piano in a large party room on the 8th or 9th floor. Roger had some lyrics about being “all you can be” and do not settle for second best. I (Carl) had some chords and before you knew it, we had a great song, #1.
